SoFASTication

It is really interesting to watch people when you drive by in your Porsche, or are pulled up to a stoplight with some hot to trot American “muscle” car rumbling gas out their tailpipe. Polly never understands why they do that, rev up and all, when all I have to do it step on my gas the way I normally drive (well, I do admit, I do like that little grab and not quite squeal…) from the light. For heaven’s sake, what is that Mustang trying to prove, anyhow? If my Porsche was not going to smoke them (and it will), hundreds of Pintos, oops, I mean Mustangs, would be on the tracks around the world racing with the best of the big boys instead of my high performance, tried and true, winningPorsche. Besides, my Porsche is not only FAST, it is sofasticated.

You see, in Polly’s mind, you do not have to “prove” anything when you arrive and get to enjoy a classy 911 or any other Porsche for that matter. You have arrived, for heaven’s sake. True sophistication is carriage, class, quiet and subtle confidence and cultivation. The fact you can afford to be truly sophisticated and drive a classy sports car that is fast as greased lightning, highly maneuverable and super comfortable that turns heads makes you, well, sofasticated.

Let’s be honest, Porsches are not cheap automobiles, even used ones. According to many online and dealer locations, a Porsche 911 holds its value and is one of the top 10 cars in the world at doing so. Do not expect to buy a used Porsche on the cheap, even in a box! My Porsche 911 was my present to myself, not something to show off (although it does, truly, it does turn heads) for having worked hard, investing time and sweat into my career and business. It means I know quality when I see it and am willing to pay the price to get it. I do not have time to spend days waiting for the Beemer to get out of the garage (did I just say that? blush – you know it is true though).

Porsche has been making the 911 for 56 years, and records prove it to be one of the most reliable cars on the road, worldwide. However, I will not lie, when you need work done by a qualified Porsche mechanic, it is not the cheapest. The good thing is you have to only usually get standard maintenance done, not the constantly annoying, expensive, down time that so many other supposed “sports” cars are plagued by. A lot of Porsche enthusiasts also like to get a little greasy (Polly knows how to check all her own fluid levels, change tires, and such not) and do a lot of their own checking and maintenance. Please, though, when you need something serious, if you are not a qualified European (or even German) sports car mechanic with the correct tools and a good place to work – trust your half-moon baby to the certified Porsche mechanics in your town. Trust me when I tell you a properly maintained Porsche will last decades and those records and TLC will pay off handsomely when you get your next upgraded model of Porsche 911.

If you want to turn heads at the light, and not because you are violating a noise ordinance to get attention, continue on your quest to own a Porsche. There are so many new and good used 911 models to choose from, in a variety of price ranges. It is perfectly ok to gain a new level of quiet pride of ownership and sophistication by meeting your goal of a Porsche in your garage or drive.  And trust me when I tell you, heads will turn and be a bit green with envy over “She got a Porsche!” everytime you pull up to a light.
